You have a thriving WordPress site for your digital agency, but you get an idea for a new service to offer. Instead of cramming that service on an existing page, you decide to add a new page for the offer.

However, you aren't sure how to add and organize your WordPress pages. Fortunately, doing both of those things is easier than you think.

Read on to learn how you can add and adjust the order of your website pages.

How to Add WordPress Pages

Adding WordPress pages is easy once you get the hang of it. Every time you get an idea for a new service to offer or another type of page to create, you can add it to your WordPress site.

Whether you're creating your first WordPress website or need to add on to one, you can use the same steps. That way, you'll be able to add pages that will help make your website stand out.

Here are some steps to follow when adding new pages in WordPress.

Create a Page

Log in to your WordPress dashboard and look for Pages on the left side of the menu. You can then click Add New if you know exactly what page you want to add.

However, you can also click on All Pages to view your existing pages to avoid creating a duplicate. Then, go through your list of pages to see what you have.

If you need a unique page, click on Add New. This will bring up a page using the block editor or the classic editor if you use a classic editor plugin.

Write the Page Content

Regardless of the editor you use, you'll see a page where you get to write or copy and paste content for your website. Add a title and the body of the page.

You can then add any images or other media files that you want. Embed a piece of code, such as for your email list subscription form to help capture leads.

Add a contact form when creating a contact or service page. On the right side of the block editor, you can edit the slug, add a feature, and choose to allow comments.

If multiple people manage the website, you can save a post as "pending review." Otherwise, you can save a draft so that you can come back to the page later.

Publish the Page

After you review your new WordPress page and check for spelling or grammatical errors, you're ready to publish it. If you want the page to go up immediately, you'll click Publish.

However, you may want to wait to release the page. For example, maybe you want to launch a new service at a specific day and time, but you're ready to publish the page earlier.

In that case, you can schedule the page to publish automatically at a later date. Set the day and time in the page settings, and you can wait until the day comes to start promoting the page.

How to Organize WordPress Pages in Your Dashboard

Once you have a few pages on your WordPress site, you may want to organize them. WordPress organization for pages is easy, and you can do it in a few ways.

That makes it very convenient for you to adjust your menus and access pages easily. If you have a lot of pages, you can organize your site so that you don't have to search much for the pages you use the most.

Consider the following methods to organize WordPress pages.

Use a Plugin

The easiest method to organize your website pages is to use a plugin. You can search for a lot of WordPress plugins, such as Simple Page Ordering, to change the list.

After you install and activate the plugin, go to Pages, then All Pages. The plugin allows you to drag and drop pages so that they're in the order you want.

You can choose whatever order you prefer, from alphabetically to by the date you added the page. Consider what makes the most sense for you and your website visitors.

Do It Manually

If you don't have a ton of pages, you can edit the order manually within each page. From the Pages section of your site, you'll need to click on Edit or Quick Edit.

Using the main Edit feature is nice if you only need to adjust the order of a few pages. It's also useful if you need to update more data or information.

However, Quick Edit makes it much easier to reorder pages in WordPress quickly. When you click that, it will bring up a few elements to change, including Order.

Right now, all of your pages will have the number 0 in that spot. You can edit the number based on the position you want each page to have, and click Update for each one.

Sort the Pages

Perhaps you don't want to permanently reorder your pages, but you need to find one quickly. A good option, in that case, is to sort the pages by title or the date you published the pages.

This is useful if you know the title of the page but have a lot of pages and can't find what you need. On the other hand, if you remember a page you created the other day, you can sort by the date to locate it.

Unfortunately, sorting the pages won't do anything for you later on. The next time you view your pages, the list will revert to the default, which is alphabetical.

Filter the Pages

Another temporary solution to help find WordPress pages is to filter them. You can filter the pages by the month you first published them.

Depending on the plugins you've installed, you may also be able to search by SEO score. And if you have some pages that are currently in draft form or in the trash, you can filter for those at the top of the screen.

When you know the specific title of the page you want, you can search for it. All of these options are useful when you want to edit a page or access it from your WordPress backend, but the changes won't save for the next time.

How to Reorder WordPress Pages Visually

If you want to see how your changes look as you change the WordPress page order, you can do so visually. This will allow you to save your changes, and you can figure out if your edits look good.

Here's how you can reorder your pages visually to help customize your website.

Set Up a Menu

Go to your WordPress dashboard and click on Appearance, then Menus. This will bring up a section where you can create a new menu or edit one that you already have.

Your menu can act as a navigation bar to help visitors find the pages they want to access on your site. Along with pages, you can add categories or specific blog posts to the menu.

Name the menu for your own records so that you can easily edit it later. When you set up the menu, you can add pages right away, or you can wait until later to edit it.

Add the Pages You Want

Once you create a menu, you can add some or all of your pages to it.  After you add a page to the list, drag and drop it where you want, or click the arrow, and click on Up one or Down one to move your page where you want it.

You can also create sub-pages, which will appear as a drop-down menu on the site. You'll also be able to edit the navigation label, which is nice if you don't want the page title to appear in the menu.

If you want to edit a lot of the page orders at once, you can do a bulk select to remove multiple items. Another setting to consider is if you want to automatically add new pages to your menu.

This can be a good option for some websites, but it can also cause a lot of clutter if you have many pages. Click Save after making any changes, and you can review the appearance on your site.

Use Live Preview

Maybe you want to watch the WordPress page order change as you make adjustments. From your Menus page, click on Manage with Live Preview.

Click on the menu you want to edit, and you can add or reorder pages using the customizer tool. This is a good option if you want to see how changes look before you save them.

You'll also be able to see how the menu looks on desktop computers, tablets, and cell phones. That way, you can make sure the layout looks good on all devices. Click on Publish to save your changes.

Managing WordPress Pages Made Easy

Adding and organizing WordPress pages may sound overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be that way. As long as you know the steps to take, you can make your website easy for you and visitors to use.

You shouldn't have to struggle to add new pages or reorder current ones. Instead, you'll be able to focus on other parts of your business to help grow your website.
